Well, I found one example of somebody asking for me to come back, anyway. Maybe I’ve just got bored. Maybe there’s an election on the way in a year or eighteen months’ time. But anyway, about three years after I stopped, I have decided to start blogging again.
This is quite possibly a mistake. I stopped blogging for many reasons, partly because I decided other uses of my time were more valuable. But I have watched in awe as blogging actually started, seemingly, to matter a lot more – and maybe was a little envious about it all.
Times have changed in other ways; I stopped blogging shortly after Dave got elected as Tory leader, when the Party was still far, far away from the whiff of power. Right-wing blogging was strong in the context of the time, but has become dominant since… although I can’t help but worry that the triumphalism bred by a Government on the run hasn’t always ben positive in its consequences – the dominance sometimes to based on quantity above quality. I guess I’ve changed too, having been very much anti-Dave (well, pro-the-other-Dave) in the leadership election, I’ve become a lot more positive about the man - although at once nervous as to the fragility (frailty?) of his project. But hey, plenty of time for that.

Welcome back! and the golden age of political blogging in the UK ended more or less when you left. There aren’t the same political crossovers anymore. But it’s still all rather fun, and I’m glad to see Mr. Buiter linked there.
Comment by James Hamilton January 12, 2009 @ 9:32 pmWell, I thought it’d be fun as you say, and there are some interesting times in the next year or so, so why not. Buiter: always good, but you sometimes do need a few hours.
Comment by Blimpish January 12, 2009 @ 11:25 pmExcellent. Welcome back.
Comment by Justin January 14, 2009 @ 10:42 am[...] Excellent news. Just what right-wing blogging needs right now. A thoroughly decent, engaging and – vitally – likeable presence. The lovely Blimpish is back. Get him on your blogrolls and rss readers, kids. He’s the right-wing blogger it’s ok to like. [...]

Comment by Steve T January 14, 2009 @ 11:08 amCrikey, rejoice. It wasn’t just one person asking for you back. But then you know that, you coy old devil.
Good to have you back. “Sorely missed voice of the right” would be putting it mildly.
Comment by DonaldS January 14, 2009 @ 11:23 amWelcome back Blimpish – we’ve all missed you.
Comment by Wat Tyler January 14, 2009 @ 11:56 amWelcome back. Great to see you again.
Comment by chris January 14, 2009 @ 11:58 amMight I echo the sentiments of my honourable friends above, and add that I do hope you might be able to show the upstart Torybloggers who have arisen over the last few years how to present their arguments with a bit more wit and decorum?
In short: Yay.
Comment by Nosemonkey January 14, 2009 @ 1:35 pmI’m happy you’re back… but I note that this McKeating fellow has heralded your return without mention of his own recent post about futility:

Good to see you back anyway.
Comment by Steve January 15, 2009 @ 3:00 pm(A bit late, but) welcome back! Can’t remember the last time I had an interesting or constructive debate with a blogger of the Right. Quite possibly two years ago. No immediate plans to resume blogging, myself, but if you found a way back there might be hope for me.
